Konark: The Puri district administration on Monday implemented the hiked entry fee at the Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

After the hike, the ticket entry fee now is Rs 30 for domestic visitors and Rs 500 for foreign tourists. Earlier, the entry fee was Rs 10 and Rs 250 for domestic and foreign visitors, respectively. But there will be no entry fee for locals visiting the Sun Temple on Saturdays.

Notably, the Konark Suraksha Samiti (KSS) was opposing the increased in entry fee. They had organised a bandh in the town and locked the ticket counter of the Sun Temple.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had last month announced a three-fold hike for domestic visitors and 100 per cent hike for foreign tourists for entry into the archaeological monuments, including Konark temple, across the country.
