Bhubaneswar: The local Met office has predicted heavy rainfall in north and coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours.

A Met release this afternoon said the low pressure area formed over north Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood yesterday has turned into a well marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood at 8.30 AM today with the associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. The system is likely to concentrate into a depression by tomorrow.

Under its influence, rain or thunder shower is likely to occur at most places over Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall very at one or two places over North Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha during next 24 hours.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea as surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph with a maximum of 65 kmph will prevail along and off the Odisha coast, making the condition of the sea rough to very rough and resulting in the rise of the sea wave up to 3-4 metres during the period, the release added.
