Bhubaneswar: The local Met office has predicted heavy rainfall in coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours under the influence of a low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.

A Met release issued this morning said a low pressure area, under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over east-central Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood, has formed over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining north-west and east-central with the extension of associated upper air cyclonic circulation up to 4.5 km above mean sea level Bay of Bengal at about 8.30 AM today.

Under its influence, rain or thunder shower will occur at most places over north Odisha and many places over south Odisha with heavy rainfall at one or two places over coastal districts during the next 24 hours. Rainfall in these places will increase thereafter, the release said.

Due to gusty surface wind speed reaching 35-50 kmph along and off south Odisha coast, fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into sea as the sea condition would be moderate to rough during the period.
