Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under intense heatwave conditions today with 13 towns in the State recorded more than 40 degrees Celsius.

While Bolangir remained the hottest town in Odisha at 44.3 degrees Celsius, Angul recorded a maximum temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius, followed by Sonepur (43.4), Titlagarh (43.2), Hirakud (42.9), Sambalpur (42.7), Jharsuguda (42.6), Bhawanipatna (42.5) and Malkangiri (42.2), the Regional Meterological Centre said.

Both Talcher town and Sundargarh recorded 41.5 degrees Celsius each, while the mercury stood at 40.1 degrees Celsius at Keonjhargarh and 40 degrees Celsius at Phulbani, it added.

In Bhubaneswar, the maximum temperature was at 36.8 degrees Celsius, while the mercury touched 36.5 degrees in Cuttack city, the meteorological centre added.

Sunstroke has claimed at least three lives in Odisha so far this summer with casualties reported from Bargarh, Angul and Balangir districts, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) office said.
