Heat wave throws life out of gear in western Odisha

Bhubaneswar: An intense heat wave prevailed across the state while the temperature in western Odisha crossed 40 degrees Celsius making life unbearable due to the sweltering heat.

A Met release here this evening said temperature went up to 40 degree Celsius and above in eight places in west, central and south Odisha today.

While Bhawanipatna recorded the highest temperature at 43.2 degrees, Balangir came second with 43 degrees followed by Jharsuguda (42.6), Hirakud (42.5), Sambalpur (42), Sundergarh (42), Malkangiri (41) and Keonjhar (40.1).

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar has predicted that like yesterday, the heat condition is likely to continue in the region today.

Talking to OTV, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, Director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said while the heat wave condition would persist in the central, western and southern regions, there is possibility of rain or thundershower in the coastal regions in the next five days till April 9.
