Bhubaneswar: Health Secretary Arti Ahuja today confirmed the death of 19 persons in the major fire that broke out in the SUM Hospital here on Monday evening.

The Health Secretary, who visited the hospital early morning today to take stock of the situation, said 14 patients were declared brought dead at the Capital Hospital while five patients succumbed to their injuries at the AMRI Hospital. Besides, 106 persons are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the city.

“Post-mortem of all the 19 persons has been completed at the Capital Hospital. The doctors conducted the autopsy throughout the night. Besides, vehicles have been provided to family members of the deceased persons to take the bodies back home," the Health secretary informed the media On the other hand, the ICU, dialysis and emergency units of the Sum Hospital have been sealed to ensure a proper investigation, she added.

The deceased were identified as Manaswani Sadangi (Jankia), Lochana Barala (Begunia), Prasanna Tripathy (Bolagada), Latika Das (Bhimatangi), Ashok Sahu (Samantarapur), Md Zakir Hussein (Keranga), Nagendra Nath Sur (Jaleswar), Nimai Naik (Bhubaneswar), Padmini Dehuri (Keonjhar), Tribeni Naik (Gosani Nuagaon), Lingaraj Raul (Chhatrapur), Bhagyadhara Behera (Kamakhyanagar), Sukanti Sahu (Belapada, Jatani), Sulochana Parida (Patakura), P Kalyani Patra (Kabisuryanagar), Jogendra Das (Begunia), Md Hassan (Badagada, Bhubaneswar), Rajani Patra (Banapur) and Shailbala Sasamal (Dahipada, Jagatsinghpur).
