Cuttack: Taking serious note of the fire incident at the cardiology department of the SCB College and Hospital in Cuttack on Tuesday, the Orissa High Court today ordered the state government to immediately set up a fire sub-station on the hospital premises.

Fire Services DG Binay Behera, the superintendent of SCB medical, the head of the cardiology department and the executive engineer of the GED department appeared before the High Court on Thursday.

The Court also ordered setting up of similar centers at other hospitals in a phased manner.

“There were discussions about how corrective and preventive measures could be taken to avoid similar accidents. The court also issued directions regarding the same and said that all the three medical colleges in the state should have a fire sub-station. Moreover, the court also ordered implementation of the recommendations given during the fire audit,” said Binay Behera.

Notably, on May 31, fire broke out in the duty room of the Cardiology ward of SCB Medical College and Hospital. The hospital staff immediately evacuated the 60 patients from the second floor with the help of the attendants and informed the authorities. Fire service personnel doused the flames in about an hour.
