Cuttack: Arrested IPS officer Joydeep Nayak got a major relief today when the Orissa High Court granted him conditional bail against two sureties of like amount of Rs 1 lakh along with property surety of Rs 50 lakh.

The property pledged as surety cannot be sold until the case is finalised, the court directed and asked the Tripura cadre officer to surrender his passport to the investigating team.

Vigilance sleuths had arrested the Tripura-cadre Odia IPS officer from Ghaziabad on charges of masterminding the siphoning off Rs 88 lakh meant for computer education of SC/ST students and self help groups (SHGs) in Odisha while he was on deputation in the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police.

On July 6, Tripura government had suspended the 1991-batch IPS officer for breaching service rules. Nayak, who was posted as Director, in Fire Service department in Tripura, was later transferred as OSD to State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD).

As many as five persons, including an additional SP, are already behind bars in this case.
