Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today rejected the petition filed by the Congress MLA Bhujbal Majhi against Rajya Sabha MP N Bhaskar Rao for furnishing wrong information in his affidavit during filing of nomination for the upper house.

The High Court rejected the case on the grounds that Rao was not provided with a copy of the petition and has also instructed Majhi to deposit Rs 20,000 as fine.

Last year Bhujbal had filed a petition in the High Court against the Rajya Sabha MP alleging that Rao had provided false information in his affidavit.

Majhi alleged that Rao did not provide information on the pending taxes levied by the Central government, seeking rejection of the latter’s membership from Rajya Sabha.
