Jharsuguda: A 10-member delegation of lawyers of Jharsuguda District Bar Association left for New Delhi by train this morning to take part in a one-day token strike at Jantar Mantar organised by the Central Action Committee (CAC) for fulfilment of its demand for setting up of a High Court bench in Western Odisha.

The delegation, led by the vice president of the Jharsuguda District Bar Association, Niradakanta Mishra, will stage a sit-in dharna at Jantar Mantar on November 28 in which nearly 1000 lawyer of Western Odisha will take part.

Talking to media persons before leaving for New Delhi, Tapas Raychoudhury, member and former president of Jharsuguda District Bar Association, said the Centre and the Odisha government had earlier accepted the demands of the Association to set up a High Court bench in Western Odisha.

“But as the Centre has not taken any step in this matter till date, we will have a sit-in dharna at Jantar Mantar from 11 AM to 5 PM in which about 1000 lawyers of Western Odisha will take part. We will also submit a memorandum to Union Law minister and request him to expedite the matter. Besides, we will also apprise the Union Law minister of our decision to continue agitation till our demands are not met,” Raychoudhury said.
