Cuttack: The Orissa High Court today lifted an interim stay imposed on the conduct of polls for panchayat samiti member post in Rengali block of Sambalpur district, Kolabira in Jharsuguda, Parjang in Dhenkanal and Bhawanipatna of Kalahandi.

A division bench comprising the High Court’s chief justice Vineet Saran and Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi pronounced the verdict allowing the State Election Commission (SEC) to hold polls in the four panchayat samitis.

Pitambara Acharya, the SEC’s Counsel, told newsmen, “After completing the hearings, the division bench today vacated the interim stay on poll process for the post of panchayat samiti members in the four places.”

However, the High Court has posted hearings on seat reservations at the panchayat samitis to March 21.
