Sundergarh: A poverty stricken couple allegedly abandoned their three minor children leaving them to fend for themselves at a kendu leaf storage building at Baghapali village in Bonei block. Four days later, today villagers rescued the kids.

As per reports, the children along with their parents came to the Baghapali village around 15 days ago. The husband-wife duo used to go from village to village to do stitching works for a living. However, leaving the three kids alone at the storage building, the couple reportedly left the village four days ago.

The villagers rescued the trio and informed the Bonei police about the matter.

The children are now at the Bonei police station. The child line agency operating here has been informed to shift the children to a care centre, said a police official, adding that an investigation into the matter is on.

While locals believe that acute poverty might be the reason behind abandoning the children, the actual reason is yet to be ascertained.
