Cuttack: Continuing its crackdown on anti-social elements to reduce crime in the city, police today nabbed a wanted criminal Khokan alias Pinaki Barik following an exchange of fire here.
According to reports, Khokan was arrested after a police raid near Link road area early in the wee hours today.
Coming to know about Khokan's plans to carry out bombing in Badambadi area, a special police team raided Santosh petrol pump where the dreaded criminal was said to be hiding.
As soon as the police reached the spot, Khokan started firing but was injured after police retaliated. He is said to have sustained bullet injury on his right leg and has been admitted to SCB hospital. A 9-mm country made pistol and two live ammunition was seized from his possession.
During the faceoff a police has also been injured.
Police sources said Khokan is a dreaded criminal and is involved in a series bomb hurling incidents near Badambadi area during the recent festive period.
The accused is also allegedly involved in a number of crimes including extortion, arms cases in the city and its nearby areas.
