Bhubaneswar: Himanshu Kar alias Happy, a close associate of suspended Assistant Director of Factories and Boilers (Medical) Dr Motilal Gouda, had a business turnover of Rs 3.5 crore through contract jobs in 2014-15, Income Tax Returns filed by his wife have revealed.
Sources in the state Crime Branch, which is currently probing into his assets have revealed that Himanshu, who started taking up construction work in 2009 through the contract license in the name of his wife Srabani Kar in 2009, has been awarded tenders worth over Rs 10 crore till 2015. All construction work has been taken up by BN Constructions, a construction company in the name of his wife. As per the Income Tax Returns, Srabani has earned Rs 3.5 crore in 2014-15.
The state investigating wing is now investigating how Srabani was given tenders worth crores despite having a Class-C contractor license.
On the basis of the information, the Crime Branch and the Vigilance officials have sought detailed records relating to the tenders awarded to Srabani and the brother of Himanshu from the Public Health Department (PHD).
Reliable sources said the Crime Branch may call up Srabani and Himanshu’s brother as well as some PHD officials for interrogation. Apart from this, officials who had issued a false disabled certificate to Srabani may also be called for interrogation.
As per the investigation by the Health department, Kar, during his tenure as a clerk in the Capital Hospital from 2000 to 2010, had managed to obtain differently abled contractor licence for his wife fraudulently from the concerned Board by producing a false disabled certificate in her name and worked as a contractor of PHD with the full knowledge of the concerned minister.
