Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor SC Jamir, chief minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, and Jual Oram condoled the death of former Rajya Sabha MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra.

Patnaik conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family. Condoling the passing away of Odisha Jana Morcha (OJM) president, Pradhan said his death has created a void in Odisha politics which cannot be filled up. Mohapatra had influenced the contemporary Odisha politics and was an able administrator, he said.

BJD Lok Sabha Member Baijayant Panda expressed his grief on the demise of Mohapatra.

Leader of the Opposition Narsingh Mishra, State BJP president Basant Panda and leader of the BJP Legislature Party KV Singhdeo also expressed grief on the ex-parliamentarian’s death.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan said Mohapatra had influenced the politics of Odisha for more than 10 years. He made his mark as an able politician and efficient administrator.

Several ministers and BJD leaders including Minister of State for Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Sanjay Dasburma and general secretary of Biju Yuva Janata Dal Bijay Nayak also condoled his death.

Mohapatra, who was undergoing treatment in the ICU of Hinduja hospital, Mumbai for the last few days, died at around 9.40 pm on Sunday. He was detected with a malignant tumor in his lungs and was put on ventilator support since Friday.
