Malkangiri: The deadline for the completion of Guruprya bridge has been extended once again for the fourth time.

Works Department chief  executive engineer NC Pal informed about the development after reviewing the progress of the bridge at the site on Sunday.

Sources said, the work of three slabs and girders is yet to be completed. Similarly, colouring of stone packing on both sides of the bridge and ceiling of the stone packing are also incomplete.

The authorities have targeted to complete the pending works by March.

The government had first fixed September 2017 as the deadline to complete  the work. Later, it extended the date to November and then to February 2018.

The bridge will act as a life line of the people of around nine panchayats in cut-off areas of Chitrakonda, who have been depending on boats to connect the mainland since they were separated by Balimela multi-purpose irrigation project which was set up about 50 years ago.
