Gunupur bridge washed away, snaps closest Andhra link

Rayagada: Vehicular communication between Gunupur and Srikakulam has been disrupted after a bridge near Jagannathpur in the district washed away by strong water current following heavy rains in upper catchment areas.

People of over 30 villages of Gathalapada and Marampa Panchayats under Gunupur block of the district are in crisis after the temporary bridge that directly connects Andhra Pradesh swept away following heavy rains during the last two days. Many vehicles are stranded on both sides of the road.

“We are not able to visit hospital or send our children to schools. People will now have to take a longer route and spend more money to reach Andhra,” said G Mahan Rao, a villager.
