Bhubaneswar/Gujarat: With the voting for the first phase of Assembly elections in Gujarat over today, a lot depends on the mandate decided by Odia voters residing in the State, with a major chunk in the Silk city Surat.

There are reportedly over 4 lakh Odias in Surat only, and like every time, this population will play decider in at least three assembly seats of the State.

The Odia voters in Gujarat alleged that their demands have not been met by the government and are clearly upset about demonetization and GST.

Meanwhile, a special report by OTV revealed the Odia labourers complaining of not getting a salary equivalent to the local labourers and therefore they have demanded a hike in the salary.

On the other hand, soon after demonetisation and implementation of GST, major factories in the city got closed leading to unemployment which furthered the worries of the Odias. The other major demand of the Odias has been to provide employment to all those who went jobless after the changed state policies.

Voting took place for 89 seats of 19 districts here and the counting is set to take place on December 18, 2017.
