Berhampur: A suspended government railway police official was arrested for allegedly assaulting a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE) of Purulia-Villipuram Superfast train at Berhampur station, police said on Friday.

The GRP personnel, identified as Rajendra Kumar Munda, was arrested yesterday after TTE K Kiran Sagar lodged an FIR alleging that he was assaulted by some GRP personnel at the instigation of the GRP official when the train stopped at Berhampur.

Munda was found travelling without a ticket and without uniform in the B1 coach. He refused to vacate the coach when Sagar asked him to do so and instead abused him.

As per the FIR, when the train stopped at Berhampur, some GRP personnel, including some in uniform, dragged the TTE out of the train at Munda' s behest and assaulted him.

The injured TTE is undergoing treatment at the railway hospital in Visakhapatnam.

On the other hand, Director General of Police RP Sharma has also suspended Munda, the Inspector in-Charge of Government Railway Police (Berhampur), for misconduct and for travelling in the train without a ticket, a police official said.
