Bhubaneswar: Authorities of BJB Autonomous College today suspended all class following a violent class between two students groups this morning.

Sensing trouble, one platoon of armed police force has been deployed in around the college premises to ward off any untoward incident.

Reports said a junior student had given obscene statement against some senior students through a WhatsApp message two days ago.

Tension ran high this morning as the senior students had a heated argument with the junior students. Violence erupted as students of both the groups attacked each other with cricket stumps and tube lights in which several students including some girl students were injured.

As the situation went out of control, the college authorities called up police to maintain law and order and announced suspension of all classes for one day.

Talking to media persons, Sibabrata Nayak, a senior student said one Abhisek, a first year student, had misbehaved and heckled Lagnajit Patra with abusive language two days ago. However, the matter was solved with the mediation of the college principal. “Today, the junior students accompanied by some girl students attacked us,” he added.

Refuting the statement, Sweta Das, a junior student said the senior students had beaten up a junior student who had not given any obscene statement in the WhatsApp. “Today when we went to the senior students and asked them as to why they had beaten up the junior student, they attacked us with sticks. Even they did not spare the girl students,” she pointed out.
