Bhubaneswar: While the Crime Branch, in the course of its interrogation of Dr Motilal Gouda, has come to know that the tainted official had partnered his wife in his illegal activities, OTV has come up with clinching evidence that he had illegally conducted health check-up of the industrial labourers in the nursing home in the name of his wife and other benami nursing homes.

As per the investigation by the Labour department, Motilal had recommended a list of nursing homes for the health check-up of industrial labourers in three phases. In the first phase, he had recommended five nursing homes, four in the second phase and five in the third phase.

The name of Mayo India Occupational Health Centre & Diagnostics at Kolathia under Khandagiri police limits, which is in the name of his wife Reshma Gouda, figured in these three-phase list of nursing homes. It has also been revealed that the health check-up the labourers of the Barbil-based Arya Iron & Steel Co Pvt Ltd was done in the clinic of Gouda’s wife in 2015.

While the health check-up in this clinic was done officially, there are some benami clinics which were chosen by Gouda to conduct illegal health check-ups. One of these benami clinics is Konark Healthcare Pvt Ltd in Jayadev Vihar area of the capital city.

Besides, health check-up of the labourers of Jindal Steel & Power, Essar Steel, Ferro Alloys and BRPL was also conducted in Utkal Polyclinic at Palaspalli area of the capital city.

However, the authorities of Utkal Polyclinic at Palaspalli area of the capital city have made it clear that it is no way involved in any illegal activity and has no links with Dr Gouda.

“We have not done anything as per the recommendation of Dr Motilal Gouda. We are an independent agency. We want to inform you that we have been conducting the health check-up of the labourers of various industries much before Gouda took charge as Assistant Director of Factories (Medical). Besides, we have the statutory certificate to conduct the health check-up of industrial labourers,” BN Mohapatra, head of Utkal Polyclinic, told OTV over phone today.

On the other hand, the Congress has targeted the BJD for its close nexus with Gouda.

Talking to media persons today, Odisha Youth Congress leader Manoj Biswal said the four BJD leaders—Jajpur MLA Pranab Balabantray, Chandbali MLA Byomokesh Ray, Khandapada MLA Anubhav Patnaik and Panchayati Raj and Law minister Arun Sahu— had close links with Motilal Gouda.

“Gouda has spent a major share of the election expenses of these BJD leaders and has provided them with air tickets for their foreign tour. Considering the above, they must be immediately brought under the purview of investigation and served with notice within 72 hours failing which the Youth Congress will gherao Naveen Niwas on July 19,” Biswal thundered.

Terming the charge of Biswal as baseless, BJD spokesperson Samir Das said if the Youth Congress leader has any conclusive evidence, let him produce it before the Crime Branch. “The efficiency and honesty of the Crime Branch has been proved on a number of occasions in the past. The state government has specifically directed the Crime Branch for an impartial probe into the case and the latter is doing its duty sincerely,” Das pointed out.
