Balasore: A major tragedy was averted after five bogies got detached from a goods train near Bahanga station on Saturday night.

The bogies of the goods train proceeding towards Tata from Dhamra in Bhadrak got separated near Panpana station. The matter came to light only after the goods train had covered over 2 kms.

A separate engine was then dispatched from Bahanga and the bogies were brought and attached with the goods train.

Though the exact reason behind such incident is still unclear, senior railway officials are expected to conduct an inquiry after visiting the spot today.

It is not for the first time that bogies have been detached from train engine. Earlier, 22 coaches of Puri-Ahmedabad express had rolled down for over 10 kms without engine on April 8 near Titlagarh station.

The coaches had detached from the engine during an engine change at Titlagarh railway station and continued to roll on without engine for 15 kms up to Kesinga. Seven railway officials were later suspended for dereliction in duty.
