Rourkela:  Train services at Hatia Rourkela railway section of the South Eastern Railway Zone was affected on Wednesday after a goods train derailed near Parbatonia station leading to diversion and cancellation of some trains.

Two empty bogies of a goods train derailed at around 3.10 pm in the afternoon following which an ART van was sent out to clear the line.

Soon after the information, DRM VK Gupta along with other railway officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Due to the accident, the Hatia - Pune Express scheduled to leave Hatia at 9 pm yesterday was rescheduled to 11 pm. Similarly, the trains including Bokaro - Bhubaneswar Garib Rath, Dhanbad Allepy Express, Hatia-Puri Tapaswini Express, Sambalpur Benaras Express, Jammu Tawi Express, Darbhanga Seconderbad Special Express were diverted via Muri - Chandil - Rourkela.

While the Hatia Rourkela Passenger was cancelled, the Jharsuguda Hatia Passenger was cancelled from Bano station.

Sources said this is the second derailment in the section in the last  two months. Earlier on February 15, a goods train carrying iron ore from Kiriburu to Bokaro derailed at Pakra Station.

Low quality of track maintenance is stated to be the reason for frequent accidents. There is only one railway line in the section and a new line of 30 km is being laid.
