Cuttack:  Carrying out further investigations into allegations of taking kickbacks from Pharma companies in lieu of undue favours, the Vigilance sleuths on Thursday detected gold and diamond studded jewelries from the bank locker of SCB Medical College and Hospital doctor RK Jena.

Official sources said, diamond studded gold jewelries weighing more than 400 grams and worth Rs12, 00,000 were recovered from locker which was maintained jointly by Jena and his wife.

Earlier, the anti-corruption wing had detected assets to the tune of over Rs 3 crore during simultaneous raids conducted at his office and residences yesterday.

The raids were conducted on allegations that Jena showed undue favours to Pharma Companies in return of pecuniary gains and for possessing disproportionate assets to his known source of income.

A senior Vigilance official revealed that Jena had undertaken foreign tours to several places in Europe, USA and South-East Asia on his own expenses between 2005 and 2015.

Jena had also applied for permission to visit Madrid, San Diego, Copenhagen, Manila, Vienna, and San Francisco.

Whether Dr. Jena had actually undertaken such visits is under verification while the authorities of Passport and Immigration are being contacted to find out the details of his foreign tours.
