Bhubaneswar: An upper primary school at Rasagovindpur block in Mayurbhanj district has earned global recognition for adopting interactive methods of teaching. Rajesh Pradhan, block education officer of Rasgovindpur block had recently received the Commonwealth Education Good Practice Award 2018 on behalf of the school at Nadi in Fiji .

The students at the school are being taught through innovative worksheets, activities for students through paintings and other low-cost-teaching materials.

This has also helped in imparting education to students in a more friendly environment while the kids also showed tremendous improvement in grasping several subjects easily than the conventional methods of teaching.

"Our programme has received good practice award for adopting new techniques in attracting students to school and reducing drop outs,"said Pradhan.

The concept 'Swasikhyan'- a self-learning project to enhance the quality of education in primary schools under the 'Mu bi Padhibi' (I will also read) programme was launched in 2015.

The basic idea was to do away with the dull and unattractive classroom and passive teaching methods, official sources said.

"All the information of the books have been either drawn on the floor or walls and students are being taught through such innovative worksheets, toys and other games," said teacher Mayawati Ram.
