Balasore: A five-year-old girl is now battling for survival every minute while her parents are running from pillar to post to seek financial assistance for treatment in Balasore.

Gayatri, the younger daughter of Prakash Patra and Nibedita Patra of Padmapur village in Sadar block here is suffering from a medical condition in which her head size is increasing at a tremendous pace along her growing age.

Eking out living by working in a small hotel, Prakash with his meagre income has done his best to treat his ailing daughter. But doctors in Odisha have now referred Gayatri to AIIMS in New Delhi which has become a hindrance in the treatment of the child.

"The doctors are saying that my daughter's head bone is increasing and the doctors in AIIMS, Bhubaneswar have referred her to New Delhi AIIMS. We have already spent a lot of money and now it is has become difficult for us to bear her treatment further," said Nibedita, Gayatri's mother.

After the doctors referred Gayatri to AIIMS, New Delhi, Prakash wrote letters to the District Collector seeking aid. Though some amount of money was sanctioned by the Red Cross, the family spent it on for different medical tests, such as MRI, CT Scan of Gayatri.

"We have consulted many doctors. All of them advised to take her to New Delhi. I have repeatedly requested the administration to provide financial help for my daughter's treatment. I do not even have money for the medicines, I want to save her,' said Prakash while pleading for assistance.
