Girl student of Navodaya School commits suicide

Baripada: In a tragic incident, a girl student of Jawahar Navodaya School in Betanati of Mayurbhanj district committed suicide on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Suchitra Pradhan, a class XI student of the school.

According to sources, Suchitra left the school while all the other students were busy celebrating Raksha Bandhan and committed suicide in her hostel room.

She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival, the sources added.

Prahallada Pradhan, father of the deceased, said,“I got a call from the school authorities that she had been admitted to hospital. When I came here and asked the doctors about her, they said she is dead.”

B. Sita Laxmi, vice-principal of the school, said, “She went to the hostel while we were celebrating Raksha Bandhan and committed suicide. We don’t know the reason behind her move to take the extreme step. This can be ascertained only after the completion of the investigation.”

Police has started an investigation into the matter to find out the circumstances in which she committed suicide.
