Girl ends life as ‘jilted lover’ posts morphed pictures on social media

Kendrapara:  A 21-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide at Mahakalpara in Kendrapara district after a youth posted some morphed pictures of her on social media.

The youth who has been identified as Tapas Mahakud of Pattamundai area reportedly had a one-sided love affair with the victim.

Though the victim, a college student had turned down Mahakud’s marriage proposal, he continued to harass her and later posted some of her pictures by creating a fake Facebook account in the name of Indira Das Indira.

Moreover, Mahakud had also allegedly morphed few pictures of the victim and later circulated them in the village with an intention to blackmail and defame her.

Unable to bear the embarrassment, the girl reportedly attempted suicide and was then immediately rushed to the hospital by family members last night. However, the doctors declared her dead on arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, police have started a probe into the incident after the victim’s family lodged a complaint.

“The youth had put up some leaflets carrying pictures of the victim and him in the village. Later, the girl committed suicide and our probe is on,” said sub-inspector of Mahakalpara police station, Bijay Khatua.
