Keonjhar: Tension prevailed in Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after a girl died while undergoing treatment here due to alleged medical negligence on Wednesday.

According to reports, Sushma Nayak of Gourituta Sahi was hospitalised for treatment of sickle-cell disease on Tuesday and was prescribed blood transfusion.

However, the family members alleged that she was not properly looked after by the doctors and her treatment eventually got delayed, following which she died.

Angry, few locals staged an agitation in the hospital after which police rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

However the doctors denied any medical negligence and feigned ignorance about the incident in the hospital.

“I’m completely unaware of what actually transpired in the hospital. Although I was not present, I had assigned responsibilities to other doctors. Blood banks should have a full time doctor. I’m not a blood bank officer. Blood banks should have a pathology specialist. I’m not a pathology specialist,” said DHH doctor Benudhar Nayak.
