Girl dies after consuming 'expired' TB medicines

Cuttack:  A girl in Cuttack, who had reportedly fallen sick after consuming expired medicines for tuberculosis (TB), died while undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Sunday.

The deceased Gudi Nayak of Rajabagicha in the city had been taking the expired medicines during her initial treatment at district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Cuttack in the last three months.

The family members alleged that the medicines were issued from the DHH and were supplied to Gudi's family by an ASHA worker.

The ADMO had earlier ordered for a probe after a report was telecast by OTV in connection with the lapses in supply of expired medicines on December 29.

Following the incident, Gudi was admitted to the TB ward and SCB where she died while undergoing treatment today.
