Girl critical in acid attack in Kalahandi

Kalahandi: Despite awareness campaigns, there seems to be no end to atrocities against women with one more girl becoming target of acid attack in Odisha. This time the shocking incident has been reported from Kalahandi district.

According to reports, the girl has been critically injured after a youth allegedly threw acid suspectedly over unrequited love at Kalampur under Dharamgarh block in the district here on Monday.

The incident occurred when the victim of Khandidangari village was on her way to attend computer classes at a private coaching centre at Kalampur at around 8 am today.

The youth Parshuram Majhi reportedly stopped the victim near Bankapalla chhak and allegedly threw acid on her.

The girl was then rescued by a group of local villagers and admitted to the hospital with  injuries on face and hands. Her condition is said to be critical.  The family, meanwhile,  has lodged a complaint in connection with the incident while the youth is absconding.

Condemning the acid attack,  BJD's Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda demanded for stern action against the accused so that such incidents do not recur.
