Bhubaneswar: Bringing laurels for Odisha, Jyotiranjan Barik has secured All India Rank 1 in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) this year.

Barik, a student of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), has secured the top rank by securing an overall score of 959 in agricultural engineering paper in the examination, the results of which were declared by Indian Institute of Technology.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also congratulated Barik on his achievement.

Asked about his aim, Barik who is a native of Phulnakhara in Cuttack district says he wants to pursue M.Tech in soil and water conservation engineering from IIT, Kharagpur and then go for PhD to become a scientist.

"I want to give all the credit  to my father for the success. My brothers and teachers have helped me a lot in achieving the success. My message to all the students who aspire GATE is that they should clear their concepts first and then strengthen only the identified topics, an elated Barik said.

The scores of GATE 2018 is also being used by various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in their recruitment process while the IIT Guwahati had released the official answer keys and question papers of GATE 2018 on February 19, 2018.

Official sources said the candidates can download their scores cards from the official website from March 20 to May 31. They can visit the GOAPS portal to download the same from March 20.

Apart from Barik, Prashant Gupta of Lucknow has also secured the first All India rank in Chemistry with 71.67 percent out of 100.
Similarly, Namita Kalra from Uttarakhand has secured All India rank 1 in computer science engineering.
