Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police have arrested three persons for allegedly smuggling Ganja in a clandestine manner to Karnataka from Bhubaneswar yesterday. A pistol, Rs 70,000, two luxurious cars and 40 kg Ganja from their possession, said Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.

The Ganja peddlers used a unique modus operandi to run the racket and they used to bring Ganja from Southern Odisha, particularly Phulbani and sell the contraband in various local markets and well as outside the State.

The accused have been identified as Basudev Parida, 34, native of Begunia and S. Manoj, 29, S. Mohan, 30, both residents of Karnataka.

The police said the cost of ganja was around Rs 3000 per kilogram in the state while its rate multiplied 10 times in Karnataka for which the gang used to smuggle the narcotics from Odisha.

To give the cops a slip, they used to transport the Ganja in luxurious cars having private numbers and keep cumin powder in the vehicles.

The gang used to threaten people by brandishing gun and even give bribe to escape from their clutches, police said.
