Angul: Expediting raids on the illegal ganja farms, a special team comprising excise, police and revenue departments on Tuesday destroyed ganja plantations on 7 acres government land at Pitapalli and Bakala villages under Jarapada police limits of the district.

As per reports, the teams destroyed around 24,000 ganja plants on 7 acres government land adjacent to the river.

Excise personnel claimed the price of the ganja saplings destroyed was estimated to be more than Rs 2.40 crore. Acting as per the orders of the district administration, several illegal ganja cultivations in other areas of the district were also destroyed few days ago.

In a similar incident last month, a joint team of police and Excise officials destroyed ganja cultivation on 52 acres in Dumangpadar and Panaspadar areas under Adaba police limits in Gajapati district. The joint squad set afire 10.40 lakhs ganja plants worth around Rs 10.40 crore.
