Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced free treatment for the minor girl, who was allegedly gang raped by four jawans engaged in anti-Maoist operations in Koraput district.

Patnaik expressed deep shock over the incident and termed it as 'inhumane'. He also informed that the DGP has been instructed to nab the accused at the earliest and take stringent action against them.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also said he was disturbed after hearing about the incident and demanded stringent action against the accused. Pradhan on his personal twitter handle has prayed for adequate treatment and speedy recovery of the survivor.

DGP RP Sharma talking to OTV informed, “Police has already registered a case at Pottangi police station. We will conduct a proper investigation to nab the accused. Their identities will be clear after the investigation.”

Earlier on the day, the minor girl had been abducted by four persons suspected to be security personnel and was gang raped in a forest near Sorispadar village under Pottangi police limits of the district. The incident occurred at around 12 noon when the girl was returning to her home after school.

Tension erupted in the area after the incident came to light. Locals had staged road blockade at Kundili demanding immediate action against the accused.

“If the accused are not arrested at the earliest and stringent action is not taken against them and we have not received assurance that such incident will not be repeated in future, we will take to streets and protest severely,” said Koraput MLA Krishna Chandra Sagaria.

Meanwhile, the girl is undergoing treatment at Koraput District Headquarters Hospital. “Her condition is presently stable. She is able to interact and her vital parameters are normal. We have already started the basic medications,” said doctor Anulagna Das.

While the rape survivor's brother has alleged that four BSF jawans gagged and sexually assaulted her in the forest, it is still unclear whether jawans of CoBRA or BSF were behind the atrocity against the Class IX student.

“Four BSF jawans in uniform and weapons abducted and gagged her mouth and took her into the forests where they raped her. Somehow she managed to save her life and one of my aunts rescued her and admitted to hospital,” said her brother.

On the other hand, CRPF DIG (Operations) Ram Charitra has ruled out the involvement of CoBRA battalion jawans in the incident. Similarly, BSF DIG (Intelligence) JC Nayak has also denied involvement of any BSF men in the case.
