Bhubaneswar: Demanding regularisation of jobs, Gana Sikhyak Teachers' Association launched a hunger strike in front of the residence of School & Mass Education minister Badri Narayan Patra in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

As per reports, on 22 December 2016 a notification by the State government was released stating that trained teachers with eight years of experience will be regularised. However, after a few months a fresh notification was issued changing the calculation date for determination of experience of the said teachers.

The association alleged that teachers from six districts were affected and have reportedly lost their jobs due to the revised notification.

The association is demanding withdrawal of the revised notification.

“The State govt should regularise the teachers who have eight years of experience. Till our demands are not fulfilled the hunger strike will continue,” warned president of the agitating teachers’ association, Sarat Chandra Nayak.

However, minister Patra is yet to respond on the matter.
