Bhubaneswar: He might have lost his eyesight but the disability has never deterred him from succeeding in pursuing his passion.

Raja Mishra, a Bengaluru based Odia youth, has overcome his blindness as he continues to show others the path from darkness to light through his burning desire to explore his passion for writing.

Despite blindness at the age of 13, Raja was successful in obtaining a Post Graduation in English from Utkal University. He has written over 7 bestselling novels in English. Some of his works include Bleeding Barriers, Celebration of Love, Ripples, Gordian Knot which have brought him name and fame.

Speaking to OTV, Raja cherishes his achievements with humility. “I had the passion for writing and the stories that I had always wanted to say. But I had to find some time beside my day job,” Asked about his future plans, Raja says he wants to concentrate on thriller and motivational novels in coming days.

“One day when he was studying in Class VIII he complained of difficulty with vision in one of his eyes. Doctor asked us for a complete family diagnosis and we found that he was affected with Macular Degeneration, a type of genetic eye disease. Then all of a sudden everything changed,” Raja’s mother says with a heavy heart.

Raja's father is very proud of his achievements that he has managed to earn in spite of his disability. “It is the duty of every parent to support their children with whatever facilities available. Besides, at all levels of society or government, people should be aware about the importance of motivating and supporting physically challenged not only financially but also mentally,” he said.
