Bhubaneswar: After the Assembly was stalled by the Opposition over the ruling party’s alleged links with the chit fund scam, Congress turned the heat on the ruling party by taking to the streets, demanding resignation of Food Supplies minister Sanjay Dasburma for his alleged links with Artha Tatwa chit fund company.

Hundreds of Congress party members, led by chief Prasad Harichandan, staged a rally demanding action against Dasburma. The women's wing of Congress also took part in the protest rally.

The rally, which began from the Congress Bhawan, reached Lower PMG square where ugly scenes were witnessed after protesters clashed with policemen.

Harichandan, who addressed the rally from a makeshift stage, demanded the resignation of Dasburma and action against other BJD members linked to the chit fund scam.

“Ministers, MPs, MLAs and government officials are all involved in the chit fund scam. We are demanding resignation of minister Dasburma, who is neither doing it nor his party is taking any action even after he has been served a notice by the CBI,” said Harichandan.

Responding to Harichandan's barb, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb said; “Before pointing fingers at anyone, Congress should look at itself. If leaders like Ramesh Jena with such criminal records are within the Congress party, on what moral grounds the party is taking out a rally?”
