Jajpur: Four days after the no-confidence motion against Vyasanagar municipality chairperson got rejected in absence of councillors for voting, the civic body drama took a new turn as the chairperson and suspended BJD leader Sabita Rout went on leave for three months from today by handing over the office to the vice-chairperson of the 26-member municipality.

In a letter to vice-chairperson Subash Bal, which was copied to Jajpur Collector and Korei MLA, she mentioned that such a decision was taken for her health reason.

"As per doctor's advice, I will remain absent from 25.01.2017 to 23.04.2017 on health ground. So, I handed over all charges of the municipality and my office to you for a temporary period. I will be back in office on 24.04.2017", the letter read.

Expressing hope on the vice-chairperson, she said that vice-chairperson Subash Bal could handle the office effectively. "I hope you would ensure smooth conduct of some functions like Republic Day, Vyasa Marathon and Vyasa Sarobar Mahotsav falling during these days", Rout added in her letter.

Notably, the no trust motion against the beleaguered chairperson was dismissed as no councillor including the BJD members did not turn up for voting on January 21.

The motion was brought against the chairperson for the second time in last three months.

Few days earlier, Rout was suspended from the BJD over disciplinary issues following which a formal no-trust vote was brought against her by 13 BJD councillors.

The Councillors, who had brought the motion, abstained from voting as the party did not issue a whip.

Similarly, Congress Councillors with the support of Rout’s party members had also moved a no-confidence motion against her in September last year.

The motion was also dismissed that time in absence of required number of members.
