Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall will lash most parts of coastal and north Odisha in the next 24 hours, the local Met office said in a release this afternoon.

As per the release, yesterday’s low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha-West Bengal coast lay centred over north Chhattisgarh and its neighbourhood at about 8.30 AM today with associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 3.1 km above the mean sea level.

Meanwhile, a fresh low pressure area has been formed over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast today with the associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-tropospheric level.

Under its influence, widespread rainfall will occur at most places over Odisha while heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur at one or two places over interior and coastal Odisha during next 24 hours.

The fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea in the coastal pockets as surface wind from northwest direction with speed reaching 30-40 kmph and gusting up to 50 kmph will raise the tidal wave up to 3-4 metres, the release added.
