Berhampur: The Berhampur Sadar Police on Thursday registered a fresh land fraud case against former Sanakhemundi Congress MLA Ramesh Jena and two others.

Talking to media persons, Berhampur SP Ashish Singh said the Sadar Police has registered a case no-59/16 against Ramesh Jena, CMC corporator R Murali Mohan and builder Kiran Panda for fraudulently grabbing about four acres of land in Boriguma and Nimakhandi areas.

“Police, in course of investigation, today arrested Kiran Panda and forwarded him to the court,” he added.

The SP also informed that the Hinjilikatu police today took Krupasindhu Muduli, one of the closest associates of Ramesh Jena on a two-day remand for interrogation on illegal possession of a crusher unit at Bhabandha, owned by person, in his name.

“On the other hand, the Berhampur SDJM court has allowed the Sadar Police to take Ramesh Jena on a five-day remand for interrogation in connection with his involvement in a land grab case while the Digapahandi JMFC court has allowed the Crime Branch police to take Jena on a three-day remand for interrogation in connection with the murder of Srinibas Rath, former sarpanch of Malabhanja panchayat under Digapahandi police station limits. It has been decided that the Crime Branch police will take Jena will take Jena on a three-day remand after which the Berhampur police would take him on five-day remand,” Singh informed.

He further said the police, which has got vital information from Santosh Behera, another associate of Jena, during his interrogation, will take future course of action.
