Jeypore: Patients and attendants at the Jeypore Divisional Hospital had a harrowing time on Tuesday due to repeated power failures at the hospital.

Patients who had undergone surgeries and newborns were the worst sufferers.

Sashi Sahu, a relative of a patient, said, “There have been frequent power failures since yesterday. Especially babies are suffering the most. Some patients who were given saline IV drips suffered as blood started entering into the drips after the contents in the drip ran out.”

Suresh Patnaik, relative of another patient from Kotepad, stated, “My wife underwent a Caesarian section at the hospital. Due to her weakness, she was kept at the ICU where there was no generator to take care of things in the absence of electricity.”

Expressing his helplessness, Dr Rabindra Nath Mishra, a doctor of Jeypore Sub-divisional Hospital, said, “We are treating patients with the help of torch light and mobile light. As generators are not present in all the wards, we face a lot of difficulties during power failure. We have already informed the higher authorities about the issue.”
