Bhubaneswar: The Customs officials seized foreign currency and gold estimated to be Rs 22.23 lakh from the possession of four persons who arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here from Bangkok today.

The sleuths detained the four persons for questioning to elicit more information about the reasons behind carrying so much foreign currency and gold.

Sources said the detainees, who belong to Delhi, Kolkata and Cuttack area, had arrived in an Air India flight from Bangkok to the Bhubaneswar airport.

On March 6, the Customs officials had seized more than 600 gms of gold worth Rs 20 lakh from a person of Indian origin at the city airport.

The sleuths at the airport had intercepted the passenger hailing from Thane, Maharashtra, who arrived in Bhubaneswar from Bangkok via Kuala Lumpur in an AirAsia flight AK-31.
