Mumbai / Bhubaneswar: Former BJD Rajya Sabha MP and founder of Odisha Jana Mancha (OJM) Pyarimohan Mohapatra is reportedly admitted in ICU of Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai in critical condition..

According to sources, the former parliamentarian was also on ventilator support after his health condition turned critical.

His son Sambit told OTV that Mohapatra's health condition continues to be critical but they are hopeful.

“It is few months that my father’s health has deteriorated. Though he had cancer, his condition had improved. But due to infections he is now on medication support. The doctors are treating my father and we hope his condition will improve,” said Pyari’s son Sambit Mohapatra.

Mohapatra was suffering from lungs cancer and recovered. But later on he developed infection following which his health deteriorated, family sources said.

Notably, Mohapatra had started his career as an IAS officer and was also the principal secretary to former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.

The bureaucrat turned political was the most powerful among other leaders and was calling shots in the Naveen Patnaik led BJD government for long.

However, Mohapatra was suspended from BJD for allegedly engineering a failed ‘coup attempt’ to topple Naveen Patnaik’s government in 2012 when the Chief Minister was on a foreign visit to London.
