Former Congress MLA from Pipili, son arrested

Puri: Police today arrested former Congress MLA from Pipili Judhisthir Samantaray and his son Priyabrat in connection with a clash between BJP and Congress workers that took place during Odisha bandh at Mangalapur area in Pipili on Wednesday.

As per sources, a war of words ensued between the BJP and Congress workers during the bandh called for protesting the Kunduli suicide which gradually turned into a battle amongst the two parties.

During the clash, the former MLA and his son, along with 40 other workers allegedly attacked BJP leader Ashrit Pattnaik injuring him grievously. Pattnaik is reportedly undergoing treatment at the Vivekananda Hospital here.

After a complaint was lodged, both the father and the son were arrested and sent to judicial custody for 14 days, sources added.
