Puri: Residents of Gadarodanga village under Brahmagiri block in Puri district on Saturday gheraoed the residence-cum-office of district Collector over a dispute regarding the forest area boundary of the village.

Earlier, Brahmagiri police had detained 20 persons of the village in connection with the ongoing dispute over the forest land boundary.

In protest, hundreds of women of Gadarodanga village sat in front of the Puri Collector's residence-cum-office and later submitted a memorandum.

Meanwhile, the district administration is trying to hold talks with the villagers to restore peace in the area and avoid any untoward situation.

"We had moved the Orissa High Court on the matter following which officials had come for inquiry. Some women of Saharsahi had forcibly broken the barricades in the restricted forest area of the village. Instead of taking against them, the police officials intentionally harassed women of our village," said a local Mini Nayak.

"Police barged into the houses of some villagers of Gadarodanga and misbehaved with the women members. Protesting the act by the police officials, we have staged the demonstration," alleged Manasi Harichandan, another local resident.
