Bhuabneswar: Odisha’s Special Relief Commissioner PK Mohapatra on Thursday said a major flood threat has been averted in the Mahanadi system.

As water levels have started receding in all major rivers there is hardly any flood threat, Mohapatra added.

Sources said at Munduli, around 10.81 lakh cusec water level was flowing in the Mahanadi river.

As many as 1.11 lakh people have been evacuated to safer places. The state government has made arrangements of 240 free kitchens to provide cooked food to affected families in 14 districts, he added.

Total 34 people have so far died in rain-related incidents in the state, he added.

Meanwhile, CM Naveen Patnaik will make an aerial survey of flood-hit Jajpur, Bhadrak, Puri, Cuttack and Kendrapara districts, said sources.

The authorities of Hirakud Dam closed three sluice gates. Currently, flood water is being released through 47 gates.
