Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday directed senior IAS officers to make arrangements for quick restoration of victims ravaged during floods in Rayagada and Bhadrak district.

Patnaik held a review meeting with Additional Chief Secretary Home Affairs Asit Tripathy and Forests and Environment department Secretary Suresh Mohapatra on the flood situation and asked them to complete rehabilitation, compensation and other relief works besides restoration of snapped electric connections in the flood affected areas in Rayagada and Bhadrak.

Both Mohaptra and Tripathy submitted their flood assessment reports to the CM after returning from field level inspection.

Both Rayagada and Bhadrak faced severe flood situation following heavy rainfall on the upstream Baitarani, Nagabali River. In Rayagada flash floods wreaked havoc washing away four bridges including a railway bridge at Kalyansinghpur and disrupted train services. Thousands of villagers were cut off from the world as CRPF, ODRAF, NDRF waged relief and rescue operations. Similarly in Bhadrak district, more than 25 villages under Bhandaripokhari block were marooned and Dhamnagar block also got hit from flood.
