Bhubaneswar/Balasore: Flood alert has been issued for Bari and Binjharpur blocks in Jajpur district, Aul and Rajkanika in Kendrapara district keeping in view the release of flood water from Rengali Dam on Thursday, said Special Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi today.

“The excess water released from the Rengali dam crossed Jenapur today. Hence the alert has been issued for the four blocks in lower catchment areas,” he added.

Yesterday, the Hirakud Dam authorities opened four more sluice gates following heavy downpour in upper catchment areas. At present, the excess water is being released from the dam through 12 gates.

On the other hand, Subarnarekha river is in spate with water level above danger mark at Rajaghat following incessant rains.

Flood situation in Bhogarai and Balipal blocks remained grim today. A total of 63 villages in Bhogarai block were marooned.

Flood water was seen flowing four to five feet above Kusuda, Gabagaon and Bhuatentuli roads.

In Baliapal block, communication to almost 20 villages under five panchayats was also cut-off.
