Sundergarh: In a shocking incident five members of a family were found dead inside a house in Basundhara coal mine staff quarters under Hemgiri police limits of Sundergarh district.

The deceased have been identified as labour contractor Ramprasad Sharma and his family which included his wife, son and 2 daughters.

According to sources, the bodies were discovered after foul smell emanated from the house which reportedly was locked since last Friday. Following information from locals, police arrived at the spot and recovered the bodies.

“All the doors and windows of the room were locked from inside. When we broke the lock and entered the room all the family members were found dead and we recovered 5 dead bodies in a decomposed state. From preliminary investigation, this could be death due to asphyxia because we received a generator from the spot. Form local inquiry we found out that there was a power cut on that day and there is a possibility that the generator was on and with the doors and windows closed, the deaths could have been due to asphyxiation. Moreover, we also suspect poisoning but we can confirm only after post mortem,” said Sundergarh SP, Pinak Mishra.
